Mr. Charles Oscar Riley, beloved husband of Lillian, passed away at the Bow Island Health Centre on Friday, February 16, 2018, at the age of 85 years. His memory will be cherished by his wife of 64 years, Lillian (nee Wutzke); children, Charlene Smith and Norman (Cathy) Riley and their children, Taryn, Brad and Raelyn; stepbrother, Ernest (Doris) Jurkat; stepsister, Marilyn (Ralph) Wilson; brother-in-law, Alvin (Mary) Wutzke as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins in Prince Edward Island. Charles was predeceased by his mother, Hazel Jurkat; stepfather, Walter Jurkat; father, Charles Riley; son-in-law, Jim Smith; sister, Joyce Riley; uncle, Norman Stead and father and mother-in-law, Fred and Elizabeth Wutzke. Charles was a chartered member of the Conquerville Lions Club for over 50 years along with the Bow Island Elks Club for over 45 years. He enjoyed playing cards, golfing with his friends and listening to Norm and his band play and sing. Charles loved his Chevy trucks, his tractors and farming – which he continued to do up until the age of 80. His greatest joy came from time spent with his grandchildren whom he loved dearly and who will miss their grandpa immensely. The Funeral Service will be held at St. Andrew’s United Church, 135 – 2nd Ave. West Bow Island, Alberta on Wednesday, February 21, 2018, at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Lisa Waites officiating. Private interment will take place prior to the service at the Bow Island Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Charles’ name may be made directly to HALO, #12 – 49 Viscount Avenue S.W., Medicine Hat, AB, T1A 5G4 or to the Bow Island Ladies Auxiliary, Box 585, Bow Island, AB, T0K 0G0.
