Alex was a lifelong Medicine Hat area resident. He was a man of faith, integrity and family. His treasured wife of 57 yrs, Frieda, predeceased him March 13, 2017. Although they did not have children, Alex deeply loved his sons, Dwayne and Fred (Maier) from a prior marriage. He delighted in his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Alex was the eldest of six children born to Alexander and Ellen Giles. He was fondly known as young or “Big Alex” when he outsized his Dad. His siblings, David, Ellen Mae, Glenda (deceased), Jack, and Robert (Doris) will greatly miss him. His life as a rancher and love of Cypress Hills brought him happiness, as had the adventure of living in Australia. His wishes were to be cremated, without ceremony or memorial services, joining Frieda at Hillside cemetery. The family thanks caring friends who supported Alex with meals and visits, and those who helped him medically. He appreciated your efforts very much.
