Bernie was born in Admiral, Sk on December 31, 1929 to George and Amelia Thomson. He started his career in Rosetown, Sk selling automobile parts before moving to North Battleford where he was a salesman for Bowman Brothers, Acklands and Firestone. He moved to Medicine Hat in 1975 and then onto Nainaimo, B.C. “God’s Country” in 1979 where he met and married Penny. He completed his working life selling cars and retired in 1994.

Bernie’s passion was curling and he curled with the ACT in North Battlefield for many years. He loved cars and spent many of his younger years stock car racing. He also loved fishing and gardening. Bernie and Penny would spend many hours making sure the flowers and yard were pristine. And when all the work was done they would enjoy his homemade beer and her homemade wine out on their beautiful deck overlooking Nanoose Bay.

The family wishes to express gratitude to Judy and Larry Borserio for all their kindness and support, and to his good friends, Jerry and Barb. The family is also grateful for the compassionate care of Dr Beerman and the staff at Malaspina Care Residence.

A private family memorial service will be held at Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens in Nanaimo, B.C. at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the charity of one’s choice.
