She was predeceased by her husband, Erling Olaf Strom in 2006; parents, Edgar Akister and Vera (Darrow) Akister; one brother, Clarence Akister as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Clara was born in Tuberose, SK., and was raised on the family farm at White Bear, SK., where she attended school. As a young woman, she worked in the Mutlow family grocery store in White Bear and had many memories of rationing certain goods during the wartime years. Clara married Erling Olaf Strom on April 25, 1947, in the United Church in White Bear, SK. In their many years together, they resided in several communities. They began their married life at Clearwater Lake and then purchased a farm in the Horse Butte District west of Kyle, SK. In 1963, they moved to the Cantuar, SK., District where they continued to farm and raise cattle. In 1995, they sold the farm and purchased a home in Medicine Hat where they resided until 2017 when Clara made her way back home to Swift Current, SK. In her many years as a farm and ranch wife, Clara’s kitchen was always a hub for everyone that came and went. She took great pride in making sure everyone was well fed and cared for. Clara enjoyed the many young people that helped on the farm and treated them all like family. She grew many large gardens and when required, was able to make a bounty with very little. In her younger years, she loved to sing and was active in the rural communities. As she had more time to herself, she enjoyed bowling and watching curling, baseball, football, rodeo and the chuck wagon races on TV. She cherished all the grandchildren and great-grandchildren as they came along, trying to never miss sending a birthday card or a greeting on special occasions. She loved to bake homemade buns, cookies and cakes, sending them home with family, friends and neighbors. Clara had a feisty and spunky personality. She will be missed and dearly remembered by all those who got to know her.
