1917 ~ JEAN RASMUSSEN ~ 2018

Mrs. Jean Rasmussen of Red Deer and formerly of Medicine Hat, beloved wife of the late Arne Rasmussen, passed away on Sunday, May 13th, 2018 at the age of 101 years. Jean leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Dietrich Gail (Bob) Livingstone of Sutton West, Ontario, and Dianne Ellen Rasmussen of Red Deer, Alberta; two grandchildren, Melanie (Grant) McAlpine and great grandson, Noah; and Shawn Livingstone; one brother, John Arie (Betty) Van Staalduine of Foremost; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, Arne, Jean was predeceased by her parents, Marinus and Jenny Van Staalduine; five brothers, Neil (June), Richard, Evert, Jacob, B M Barney; and two sisters, Marie (George) Minor and Nellie (Orvel) Stovel. Jean was born and raised on the farm at Foremost and attended Neighbourview School. She helped out at harvest time with cooking at home and for several of the local families. At the age of 20, Jean moved to Medicine Hat and worked at Ogilvie Mills and Medicine Hat Laundry. Jean married Arne on May 10th, 1943 in Medicine Hat where they continued to reside and raise their family. She enjoyed bowling, baking, playing cards, gardening, and taking trips to Ontario to visit her daughter. Jean was not your typical 101-year-old, she remained in good health and was feisty right to the very end. Jean will be remembered by all who knew her with her absolute indomitable spirit and forthrightness of character and integrity. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at SAAMIS MEMORIAL FUNERAL CHAPEL on Friday, from 12:00 to 12:55 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held at SAAMIS MEMORIAL FUNERAL CHAPEL, #1 Dunmore Road SE, on Friday, May 18th, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Lance Duncalfe officiating. Interment will take place at Saamis Prairie View Cemetery following the funeral service.
