Posted: June 15th, 2018

Adele Alice Palmer passed away peacefully with family by her side on June 12, 2018. She is survived by her daughter, Meara Palmer and grandson Coen; her son, Blake Palmer; three sisters; one brother; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Adele was raised in Yellow Creek, Saskatchewan and chose nursing as her career. She attended Saskatoon City Hospital School of Nursing and received her RN degree from the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon. She then obtained her Bachelor of Nursing Education at McGill University in Montreal. Adele was a caring and kind person and family and friends were of utmost importance. Other attributes were that she held up her Ukrainian heritage by cooking traditional foods, sharing the language, celebrating important holidays and teaching children Ukrainian folk dancing with the Medicine Hat Folk Arts Club. Adele received the “Hat’s Off” award for her community involvement. Adele was a member of the Horticultural Society and she and her grandson showed their flowers off for the summer garden tours. She was smart, artistic and creative. She loved a challenge. Her special interests were cooking, baking, quilting, paper tole, arts and crafts, and flower gardening. Sincere thanks and deep appreciation for the help, caring and kindness expressed to us by family, friends, neighbours, and healthcare workers during mom’s struggle with neuroendocrine cancer. Our families were neighbors and Adele and I were the same age. We did everything together. I am so sorry to hear of her passing. Even though, in later years, we didn’t have much contact, I always considered her one of my best friends. I am certain that your memories of her will sustain you in your grief. Rest in peace, dear friend.

My condolences to Meara, Blake and family. Your mother was a neighbour from Yellow Creek. Would go by her place on the way to my Baba’s house. What I remember most vividly about your mom is how Helen Munroe (nee Borsa) and her would always walk home together from school. My thought was that they were joined together at the hip – “there they go – Helen and Adele!!!” And they both seemed to be talking at the same time!!! Great and sweet memories! May her memory be eternal! Вічная Пам’ять!
