Left to cherish his memory is his children, Harold (Sonia) Briggs, Dorothy (Terry) Schmidt, Clarence (Dale Ann) Briggs, Betty Ann (Rick) Nickel, Darlene (Calvin) Flaig, Dale (Kathy) Briggs, Iona (Gerry) Zinn, Wallace (Nasrin) Briggs, Elaine Waters (Bruce Eckman), 25 grandchildren, 41 great grandchildren, his brothers in law, Ruben and Ken Blumhagen, numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

He was predeceased by his wife of 67 years Laura, his parents Walter and Clara Briggs, his parents in law Samuel and Minnie Blumhagen, his sister Bessie Schram, his grandson Darvin Moch, and his sisters and brothers in law.

Colby was born on July 23, 1923 in Maple Creek, Sask. and grew up on the family farm and ranch just outside of Maple Creek. Colby taught himself how to play the harmonica and the fiddle just by listening to the music at the Saturday night dances his parents took him to. He met his angel, the love of his life, Laura Blumhagen and they were married on March 21, 1951. They had 67 years of shared memories together. Colby had many talents, playing music, sewing, knitting, bee keeping. He also loved gardening and on the farm he had 3 or 4 gardens. Besides farming he milked cows, and raised chickens, turkeys, and geese. Colby and Laura loved spending time with family and friends. They had many great visits with their family and friends shared over coffee or a meal. They both loved to travel and went on many car and bus trips. For many years he was also an active member of the United Church in Maple Creek. As busy as he was he always took the time to play cribbage with his family and allowed us to win once in a while. His wise words and kindness will be fondly remembered and cherished in the hearts of all who knew him.

A funeral service will take place at the United Church in Maple Creek on Saturday November 24, 2018 at 1:00 PM with Rev. Michele Rowe officiating. Binkley’s Funeral Service Maple Creek & Leader entrusted with arrangements. Condolences may be offered to the family at binkleysfuneralservice.com
