1929 ~ 2019

Maxine Margaret Knibbs, beloved wife of the late Bert Knibbs of Bow Island, passed away June 12, 2019 at the age of 90 years while in hospital at the Bow Island Health Center. She leaves to cherish in her memory her children: Robin (Connie), Carey (Helga), Kalvin (Yvonne), and son-in-law, Rick (Wendy) Dyer; her grandchildren, Scott (Becky), Mark (Sarah), Brock, Grant, Colby, Bret and great-grandsons, Ty and Max. Maxine was predeceased by her twin brother, Melvin Simpson; her parents, Ben and Bertha Simpson; her daughter, Judyann; son, Blaine and grandson, Troy. Born January 6, 1929 in her family home, Maxine spent her whole life in Bow Island, raising her 5 children and supporting them in all of their activities. She helped Bert at the Hardware Store when needed. Maxine was actively involved in the Bow Island community with the Order of the Royal Purple, St. Andrew’s United Church Women’s and the Bow Island Health Center Ladies Auxiliary. Once her kids were grown she was able to spend time with her grandchildren watching them grow, cheering them on in their sports, swimming lessons, or school activities, the list goes on. Maxine’s door was always open; people could stop over anytime to play crib, visit, have coffee, treats or even stay for a home cooked meal, there was always enough food! She was also very famous for her Halloween treats, homemade popcorn balls, they were delicious. Her garden was very important to her and there were always lots of vegetables, raspberries and flowers in her yard. Two years ago, Maxine moved to the Pleasant View Lodge where she always had a smile, loved being able to visit, win at bingo and listen to all of the entertainment. A Celebration of Maxine’s life will be held at St. Andrew’s United Church, 139 – 2nd Ave. West, Bow Island, Alberta on Monday, June 17, 2019, at 1:00 p.m. Private Interment will follow at the Bow Island Cemetery. In accordance with Maxine’s wishes memorial donations may be made in her memory to the Troy Knibbs Memorial Scholarship Fund at ATB Financial.
