Verna Ruth Burk-Langley (nee: Lake) passed away peacefully on Monday, July 1, 2019, at the age of 79 years, beloved wife of James “Jim” Langley of Medicine Hat. She also leaves to cherish her memory three children, Richard “Rick” (Laura) Burk of Edmonton, Kelly Burk of Salt Springs Island, B.C. and Chelsea (Don) Geldreich of Bow Island; her grandchildren, Matthew (Shari) Burk, Jonathan (Kelsey) Burk, Aaron (Stephanie) Burk, Jesse Dollimont (Fiancé Jeff Kynoch), Logan Geldreich and Bensen “Ben” Geldreich (Jordyn Becker); five great grandchildren, Felicity “Fizz”, Anson, Elias, Aurora and Noah; Jim’s children: Jamie A. (Erin) Langley, Patti (David) Occleston and Andrea (Doug) Hudson and their families; one brother, Charles “Chuck” (Beth) Lake; one sister Alice Klein as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Eliza and George Lake; three brothers, Bill (Shirley) Lake, John (Iona) Lake and Lovell Lake; two sisters, Mary (Hank) Breault and Margaret Lake, as well as a brother in law, Albert Klein. Verna was born on January 30, 1940 in Stoughton, Saskatchewan where she was raised. In the 50’s she moved to Swift Current and in 1959 she married Lorne Burk. Verna was an entrepreneur and ahead of her time. The family moved from Swift Current to Medicine Hat in 1969 and later to Redcliff in 1970. From Telephone Operator to waitressing to selling insurance, where she was the first female “field-man” for Met Life, owning a book store, selling Real Estate, and of course her longest job, being known as the Red Headed Record Store Lady who knew EVERYTHING about music, running her store Arcade Records for 26 years. In 1982, she met Jim Langley and they were married on December 28, 1984 in Medicine Hat. Verna and Jim moved to Bow Island in 2004 eventually returning to Medicine Hat. She was active in Al Anon where she developed life long relationships from the time she moved to Medicine Hat. Family and friends who wish to pay their respects may do so at the PATTISON FUNERAL HOME on Friday, from 1:00 – 1:55 p.m. The funeral service will be held in the PATTISON CHAPEL on Friday, July 5, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Rick Burk officiating. Interment will follow in the Hillside Cemetery.
