Posted: May 19th, 2020

Rosalie “Rose” Kirlik of Medicine Hat, beloved wife of the late, Waldemar Kirlik, passed away on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 10th, 2020 at the age of 84 years. She leaves to cherish her memory her daughters, Marlene (Gord) Johnson and Eileen (Don) Becker of Medicine Hat, AB; grandchildren, Josh (Krista), Jay (Vanessa), Jennifer (Chris), and Matthew (Andrea); great-grandchildren, Ayla, Raylan, Arya and Rydar Johnson; brother-in-law, Otto Kraft; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Rose was predeceased by her husband, Waldemar on September 25, 2013; parents, Phillip and Helene Vorreiter; brother, Adolf; sisters, Annie and Erika in infancy; and nephew Arnold Vorreiter. Rose was born in Mytnica, Poland on September 4th, 1935. In 1939, during the war, the family moved to Kutno, Poland . Ten years later they emigrated to Gillenfeld, Germany. On May 6th, 1951 the family made their way to Canada. They settled in Leader, SK for a short time before making their home in Medicine Hat, AB. It was here that she met and then married, Waldemar Kirlik on September 22, 1956. Together they raised their two daughters and she built a good life for her family. Rose spent many years working at the Medicine Hat Steam Laundry, Woolworths and then finally, at Medicine Hat Greenhouses. Rose was an excellent cook, gardener, and baker. Many people still rave about her strawberry shortcake and turkey stuffing to this day. When she wasn’t working, she enjoyed spending time with her family; fishing with Waldemar and shopping and “doing lunch”, especially with her daughters. She was devoted to her church, St. Peter Lutheran Church, until the day came that she could no longer attend. Rose’s greatest devotion was to her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom she loved dearly. For those lucky enough to have known her, she will always be remembered for being there with a smile, her great sense of humour, her readiness to lend a helping hand, for enjoying a good time with her friends and family, and for always stopping to say hello. A link in our family chain is missing, but our memories will always live on. Mom, Grandma, Great Grandma, Aunt Rosie, “Happy Rose” and Rose: Your kindness and loving ways will be missed and you will forever be loved by us all. A heartfelt thank you to Homecare and the staff at Meadow Ridge where she received her nickname “Happy Rose” and to everyone on the 2nd floor of the Good Samaritan’s. Lastly, a special thank you to the paramedics and the tireless and caring staff on 4 West of the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital. Your compassion and kindness shown to Mom (Rose) in her final hours will never be forgotten by her family.
