1931 – Nora Elenor Hawthorne – 2020

Posted: November 6th, 2020

Nora Elenor Hawthorne passed quietly from this life to the next on Tuesday, November 3rd, 2020. Nora lived a full 89 years and in the last years of her life, even when her health was in decline, her smiling presence was appreciated by those around her. She was born in Sceptre, SK on May 15th, 1931 and was the youngest of five daughters. On December 8th, 1949 she married James Hawthorne in Swift Current, SK and together they began their married life living in Ralston before moving to Medicine Hat in 1964. They made a home for their children, Cindy, Stephen, and Kevin on the southwest hill area of the city. Nora was a stay at home Mom who, in addition to caring for her family, volunteered and spent many hours involved with activities at Westminster United Church and Elkwater United Church camp. As their children got married and left home, Nora and Jim moved to Horizon Village and then to Chinook Village. During those years they enjoyed travelling and fellowship activities with their many friends and family. She was a prolific sewer and knitter. All her children and grandchildren were blessed to have beautiful hand knit sweaters, mittens, toques, and afghans made by her loving hands. We will forever treasure them. Nora is survived by daughter, Cindy and son-in-law, Randy; daughter-in-law, Glenda and her son, Kevin; daughter-in-law, Kathy; as well as her grandchildren, Jillian, Lauren (Mike), Erica, Jenifer, Shannon and Liam; and her great-grandchildren, Dane and Bennet. The family is so grateful for the loving care Nora received at Riverview Care Facility during the last months of her life. She will be welcomed in Heaven by her beloved Jim and son, Stephen. Godspeed Mom. A private family service will be held. Condolences may be sent through www.saamis.com or www.gonebutnotforgotten.ca or to condolences@saamis.com subject heading Nora Hawthorne.
