ERNEST (ERNIE) FRANK

Posted: November 11th, 2020

December 7, 1935 – November 5, 2020

Ernie was born in Golden Prairie, SK at the end of the Great Depression. As the eldest son of immigrant farmers Ernie learned the value of hard work early in life. His parents, George and Julia instilled in him a great respect for people and our planet. He learned to care for the environment through organic farming methods that his parents embraced decades before most of the world thought about the impact of our actions. This love of horticulture remained a vital part of Ernie’s life for nearly 85 years and throughout his life he taught and inspired young and old to garden and farm in ways that would support people and the planet. Ernie’s love and respect for nature extended to all living creatures. He was often heard saying that there is nothing more genuine than the love of a dog and this was proven time and time again as every dog he met would seem to understand his kind and gentle heart and be immediately drawn to him.

In his younger years Ernie was very active in every community he lived in. He played and coached sports, entertained others by playing guitar and singing in a band and supported important political initiatives such as universal health care.

Ernie’s family meant everything to him – his parents, siblings, children and grandchildren were the fuel that made life worth living. Ernie loved to live life to its fullest and there was nothing he enjoyed more than gathering with family and friends to share a good meal, listen to music and tell stories. The stories of his life’s adventures were legendary among those that were close to him.

Ernie’s greatest gift was his loving and compassionate heart. He would always go out of his way to help anyone that needed it. Whether it was helping to design a project, guiding a young person on how to build something or teaching eager new Bridge players.

Ernie was predeceased by his parents and younger brother Vernon. Ernie is survived by many family and friends who will miss him dearly.

The family is planning a memorial celebration at a later date.
