STEIERT, FLORENCE

Posted: November 30th, 2020

Florence Rosie Steiert passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 12, 2020 at the Agape Hospice in Calgary, Alberta at the age of 93 years. Florence was born in Kayville, Saskatchewan to John and Annie Rosko on June 4, 1927. The family moved to Taber, Alberta when Florence was 10 years old where she completed school.

Florence worked for Alberta Government Telephones (AGT) in Brooks and Okotoks where she met her husband, Aloysius. They were married in 1952, moved to Burmis, Alberta for one year and then to Empress where they settled to raise their family. Flo worked for the Empress Municipal Hospital for two and a half years as an admissions clerk and then for AGT as a telephone agent for a number of years where she left in 1964 to raise her family.

Flo enjoyed gardening, especially her flower garden as well as being an excellent baker. Many people loved the sweet treats created in Flo’s kitchen. Flo is most proud of her 25 years of service in the Catholic Women’s League where she served the Catholic Church in various ministries. Over the years after Sunday masses, the Steiert dinner table was a common stop for the parish priests where Flo had gone all out with her delicious brunches. During the most recent years, Flo has been a member of the St. Peter’s Catholic parish in Calgary, AB and had been an active participant in their weekly communion services at her retirement facility in Arbour Lake. Florence remained very independent enjoying life at the Atria Retirement Center where she enjoyed numerous activities including many card games, tile rummy, and bingo with her fellow residents and visiting at meals with her closest friends.

She is survived by her son, Damian Steiert (Yvette) of Calgary, Alberta and her daughter, Leesa Belus (David) of Buffalo, WY, USA. Florence also leaves to treasure her memory five grandchildren Liam, Emme, Deri, Megan Welles (Ian), and Adam and one great granddaughter Demi Welles as well as countless nieces and nephews. Florence was pre-deceased in 2011 by her beloved husband, Aloysius John Steiert, her three brothers, Steve, Sam, Kostan, sister Mary and Grandson, Mathew Belus.

Our hearts are breaking at this difficult time of isolation with the sudden loss of our Mother and know she is smiling down at us from heaven and is at peace and not lonely or in pain any longer.

Funeral services and interment will be planned at a later date in 2021.

Donations can be made in her name to the C.W.L. in Holy Name Parish in Medicine Hat, Alberta.
