TONY HERMANN

1933 – 2021

Anton Hermann, beloved husband of the late Marianne Hermann, passed away unexpectedly in Medicine Hat, holding family in his heart, on Sunday, February 14, 2021 at the age of 87 years.

As a result of the restrictions regarding COVID-19 and the government recommendations, a private Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Bow Island on Friday, February 26, 2021 at 1:00 P.M. Tony leaves to cherish his memory his five children Thomas (Laurie) Hermann of Calgary and their children Lindsey (Rob), Krista (Franz) and Brennan (Pamela); Anthony (Sandy) Hermann of Medicine Hat and their children Kellen (Kaylin) and Jayna; Gordon (Tammy) Hermann of Lethbridge; Corinna (Ed) Umeris of Lethbridge and their children Isabella and Ethan; Mark (Candy) Hermann of Medicine Hat and their children Jessica and Kyle; his great grandchildren Violet, Oliver, Josie, Milla, Alice and Cove; and his long time companion, Rita Speicher. Tony also leaves behind his brothers Peter (Myrna) Hermann and Nick (Linda) Hermann; half-brothers Ben Hermann and Joe (Nadine) Hermann; half-sister Renate (Terry) Courts and step-sister Ann Salik and their families.

He was predeceased by his loving wife Marianne Hermann, his parents John and Eva Hermann, step-mother Monica Hermann and his brothers Kurt Hermann, Adolf Hermann and John (Marie) Hermann.

Tony was born on April 22, 1933 in Karamurat, Romania to Johannes and Eva Hermann. In 1954, he and his family immigrated to Canada. On November 12, 1955, Tony married Marianne Martha and after working in various plants and mines and as a mechanic, they eventually settled on the farm they loved in Bow Island to raise their family. Long days spent in the field and in his shop, bringing old motors to life, Tony was never the one to back away from a challenge. He will be remembered for his unending service to others. Tony was the hardest working man his family knew, never hesitating to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. His favourite saying was “happiness is work” and Tony embodied that saying to the fullest, for he was truly at his best helping his family, friends and neighbours.

Family meant everything to Tony. A devoted husband, father and Opa, his greatest joy was when the entire family was gathered together for celebrations and he could sit at the head of the table and make us laugh with his stories. He loved his grandchildren dearly, always having treats in his hand and a teasing glint in his eyes.

Tony was an entertainer and a story teller. He had a way of putting people at ease and making them laugh. He never focused on the tough times; rather, he stressed the importance of being positive and living life to the fullest.
