Janet ”Jan” Owen (nee Van Dyk) of Medicine Hat, partner of Greg White, passed away on Friday, April 9th, 2021 at the age of 61 years with her loved ones by her side. Jan will be lovingly remembered by her children, Aimee (Conal) Donovan and Trevor (Alysha) Sackman; grandchildren, Zoey, Lara, Alexander, Larkin, and Isla; mom, Adriana Van Dyk; sisters, Mary Rose, Elfriede (Don) Hoose, and Adriana (James) MacKay; brother, Jerry Van Dyk; as well as numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins here at home and in Australia and Holland. She was predeceased by her father, Gerard Van Dyk. Jan was born and raised in Medicine Hat, AB. As a child, she was very active and was involved in many sports. As an adult, she loved to kayak and was an active member of the Medicine Hat Paddling Club. She cherished the many friendships that were fostered out on the open water. For many years Jan worked at the Police Point Interpretive Centre which befitted her unwavering respect and love of nature. She had a vivacious personality and was keen to share her passion with the many visitors. Above all, Jan was a dedicated mother and grandmother. She treasured her family and embraced every moment with them. She left an amazing legacy of compassion, thoughtfulness and caring. The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Foley, Devonnah, Amy, and Serena for the compassionate care given to Jan and the family. A memorial service will be held for Jan at SAAMIS MEMORIAL FUNERAL CHAPEL, 1 Dunmore Road SE, Medicine Hat, AB T1A 1Z5, on Thursday, April 15th, 2021 at 11:00 am with Gary W. Goran officiating. Interment will follow at Redcliff Cemetery.
