1954 – 2021

SAWCHUK, Terry (Terrance) William, born in Kenora, ON on April 15th, 1954, passed away peacefully on August 13th, 2021 in Medicine Hat with his wife by his side. Terry is predeceased by his parents, Bill and Ina Sawchuk. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Theresa; sonsKelly (Tracy) Sawchuk, Kevin Sawchuk and his bonus son, Troy Want; daughters Anji (Pete) Rose, Nikki Spangler and Kayla (Scott) Plouffe; grandchildren, Taylor, Brayden, Bennett, Kelcey, Natasha, Haleigh, Shane, Katie, Kennedy, Torie, Kolbey, Madison, Cas, Jacob, Julia and Lucas; and many loved great grandchildren. He also leaves his sisters, Francis (Bernie) Beggamann, Michelle Kuyten and Lisa Sawchuk and many nieces and nephews.

Terry married the love of his life on September 14th, 2002. Terry and Terry spent 20 years together celebrating the ups and pushing through the downs. He loved his wife more than life itself. He celebrated their love on the 14th of every month during their 19 years of marriage offering her a ring of many kinds each time. There was nothing he wanted more than to make her happy.

Terry had a large family that always surrounded him with love and support. He was a brilliant presence in any room he entered, was always the life of the party with many jokes and stories to tell. His family meant the absolute world to him. He was always there for anyone at any time no matter the circumstance. Terry was an employee of the City of Medicine Hat for many years while also running The Rainmaker Sprinklers for over 20 years. Throughout this time, he formed many friendships that lasted his lifetime. He enjoyed playing cards, golfing, camping and just being around as many family and friends as possible. Terry loved minor sports, spending many years coaching hockey when his boys were young and softball when his grandchildren were

small. He attended every game he could and was always there rain or shine to cheer them on.

On March 12th, 2011, he received a double lung transplant that allowed him to remain with his family for ten more years for which he and his family were grateful. We celebrated this anniversary with him this year to mark how many more years we were gifted to spend together.

On August 7th, he fell ill with COVID which kept him hospitalized for 6 days before he succumbed to the illness. His wife was able to be with him to the end to comfort him. There will not be a funeral service at this time, the immediate family will be together privately to celebrate his life.

Terry’s medical team both in Medicine Hat and Calgary were wonderful and took great care of him throughout the years. A special thank you to Dr. Larjani; nurses Journey, Selena, Peggy and the rest of the staff of 5E at Medicine Hat Hospital. Also, to nurse Karin at Maple Creek Hospital.

His doctors at the transplant clinic in Calgary, Dr. Helmerson, Dr. Liu, Dr. Thakrar and nurses, Kelly and Vida were the reason he received such amazing care and kept him with his family. A special thank you to Whitney and Nicole in Calgary.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Southern Alberta Transplant Program at the U of A or the Canadian Lung Association.
