1938 ~ 2021

Our Mom and Grandma went to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 26, 2021. Mom was blessed with 83 beautiful years. She is adored and remembered by her children, Scott Garden (Judy; Savannah and Sierra) of Camas, Washington; Dana Bykowski (John; Elani and Janelle) of Lethbridge, AB; and Krista Bartman (Troy; Truman and Amaly) of Medicine Hat. Mom is also remembered and cherished by her brother, Bill Murray and his wife, Jan (and family) of Redvers, Saskatchewan. She was predeceased by her husband, Alistair; her parents, Edna and Syd Murray, and her brother, Scott.

Mom was born on March 9, 1938 in Redvers, Saskatchewan. She and her family lived above the family store, a building that still remains vital in the family today. Mom loved to draw, paint, play the piano, and she had a deep appreciation for literature and poetry. Mom graduated from the University of Saskatchewan as a Registered Nurse in 1959 and moved to Medicine Hat to begin her career. The friends she met during university and early in her career were held dear throughout her life. Mom and Dad met at a YM-YWCA dance in Calgary and they were married in 1963. She and our dad, Alistair, were married for 57 years before Dad passed away in 2020. While raising a family, Mom also began a life of active volunteering in our community. She was a quiet but important contributor to many organizations. She will be remembered for her time devoted to the Kinette Club, CGIT, WMS, Canadian Cancer Society, VON, Medicine Hat Christian Counselling, Rotary Club and the Rotary Music Festival. Mom always lived a healthy and active lifestyle and, for over 50 years, enjoyed being a member of the downtown YMCA. Along life’s way, Mom nurtured many friendships. She was also a dedicated member of St. John’s Presbyterian Church and served as a Sunday school teacher, Elder, and Choir member. Family and faith were deeply valued by our mom, and raising her children was the center of her life’s work. The pride and love she felt for her family radiated in her thoughts and deeds. We will miss her steady and loving presence so very much.

3 Condolences for “TANIS BARBARA GARDEN”

  1. ROBERT WHITEFORD says:

So very sorry to hear of your Mother’s passing. She was one of my favorite cousins. She was always such a friendly, gentle and kind person. My sisters and I always enjoyed her company, and my Mother thought so much of her that she named one of my sisters after her! She was a very special lady to us. Isabelle and I send our deepest condolences to you for your great loss.
