HUGH DECKER

April 16, 1931 – August 29, 2021

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Hugh Decker of Medicine Hat, a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend.

Hugh, aged 90, was loved immensely and will be remembered for his devotion to family, positivity, humour, and passion for gardening, nature and the outdoors. He leaves behind Norma, his wife of 60 years, children Alan, (Carla), Lori (Doug), Shelly (Steve), Blaine (Kelly) and Colin. He adored all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Sieg (Helen.) Hugh was predeceased by his infant daughter, Tammy, parents (Adolf and Agatha), sister Agnes and brother, Ace. He leaves behind many friends.

Hugh was born in Minitonas, Manitoba and lived in Edmonton for many years before moving to Medicine Hat where he enjoyed the milder winters and puttering in his yard.

At Hugh’s request, there is no funeral service. In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made to St. Joseph’s Home Carmel Hospice, where the team provided such compassionate and supportive care in his final weeks.

Many thanks to the wonderful people who helped him during his courageous battle with cancer. Hugh was so grateful. He will be missed and forever loved.
