EDWARD ALMOND

Posted: September 14th, 2021

Edward Harry Francis Almond, beloved husband of the late Joy Almond, passed away with his daughters by his side on Thursday, September 9th, 2021. He was born in Lloydminster, SK on June 8, 1929, to a family of twelve children. During the war years he was schooled in a convent in Clandonald, AB making many memories and life-long friends. He worked as a telegraph operator and then on the oil rigs where an accident to his left hand led to retraining as a public health inspector. Returning to Lloydminster, he married Joy Laws on May 19,1955. They moved to Athabasca in 1956 to an inspector job he really enjoyed and was very proud of before retiring to Kelowna in 1987. In 1988, Joy had a brain aneurysm and Ed became her primary caregiver for the next 30 years. They moved to a cattle farm outside of Blackfoot, AB in 1990 before settling in Medicine Hat in 2003, but his heart was always on the farm. Ed was a man of many interests and talents including coaching hockey, coin collecting and woodworking. We were all proud to say, “My Dad can fix anything!” He had a sense of humour that never left him but most important was his great faith in God that sustained him through the years. Edward is survived by his children: Catherine (Aidan), Teresa (Perry) and Christopher (Patricia); grandchildren, Avice DeKelver (Devon), Aaron DeKelver (Jenna), Sydney Almond, Ethan Pelensky and Matisse Pelensky; brother, Wesley and sisters, Dorothy, Stella and Christina. He was predeceased by his parents, Ruby and Joseph Almond and Joy’s parents, Elsie and Gerald Laws, four brothers, Joe, Fred, Ernest and David as well as three sisters, Agnes, Louise and Betty. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church, 238 – 2 Avenue N.E., Medicine Hat on Thursday, September 16th, 2021, at 1:00 p.m. with Father Francis Tran celebrant.
