KENNETH (KEN) DEAN CHAMPION

1972 ~ 2021

It is with great sorrow we announce the passing of a beloved son, brother, uncle and husband. On September 9, 2021, after a valiant struggle, Ken peacefully left this world and left the suffering behind. Ken was a person of great positivity and everything in his life was met with his brilliant smile regardless of the adversity. Ken was living his second chance at life after receiving a bone marrow transplant from his blood sister Karen Haines whom he had only met about 25 years ago and formed an unbreakable bond. Ken was born in Portage La Prairie in 1972 and adopted by his parents Judy and Bruce Champion and shared his life with his new brother Jason that was born in 1973. After several moves across provinces Ken settled with his family in Medicine Hat in 1993, met his soul mate Carollee Gaub in 1996 and married in 2008. Ken’s work life was mainly in restaurant kitchens and anyone that has eaten in a restaurant in Medicine Hat over the last 30 years is likely to have had food prepared or cooked by Ken, he knew his way around a kitchen. Ken’s failing health over the last few years kept him home bound but he connected with people all over the world through his love of online gaming, he will be missed by hundreds who knew him as “Borys”. Left to treasure Ken’s memory is wife, Carollee (nee Gaub); his adoptive parents, Judy Champion (Brian Pattison), Bruce Champion (Shelley); brother, Jason Champion (Jody Henderson) and nephews, Evan Ross, Sebastian and Xander Champion; sister and brother-in-law, Jennifer and Steve Paris and special aunts and uncles, Roy and Marie Champion, Margaret and Merlin Loewen, and Barbara and Jim Nichols. Ken is also survived by his Sandy Bay First Nations family; father, Norman Mousseau; siblings, Micheal, Kevin, Karen and many half sisters and brothers, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Ken was predeceased by his three sets of grandparents, Fred and Joyce Strong, Lawrence and Erie Champion and Percy and Lena Mousseau; his birth mother, Rosalina Haines and his mother and father-in-law, Ruth and Ted Gaub. A private family service with special friends by invitation only will be held at Saamis Memorial Funeral Chapel, on September 15, 2021 at 1:00 pm. Family and friends are welcome to participate via livestream by logging on to www.saamis.com and joining the live webcast on Ken’s memorial page at the above date and time.
