Posted: October 20th, 2021

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Lorna Evelyn Phaff on Thursday, September 30th, 2021 at the age of 90 years. Lorna is lovingly remembered by her sons, Kenneth (Cindy) and Stephen (Debra); her four grandchildren, Bryce (Nazanin), Brianne (Nick), Colin (Cheryl), and Wyatt (Jennifer); five great-grandchildren, Myah, Lawson, Leila, Magnus and Mina. Lorna was predeceased by her husband, Reginald “Reg” in February 2014; parents, Winifred and Percy Pender; siblings, Hugh Pender, Robert Pender, Ann Douglas and special cousins, Marj and Alice Middleton. Lorna was born in North Battleford, SK on April 5, 1931 but spent the majority of her life in Medicine Hat and the Irvine area. Lorna and Reg were married in 1952 and they raised their two sons in Medicine Hat while she worked as a secretary. Reg and Lorna purchased a ranch near Maple Creek where they started raising Charolais cattle. Eventually they purchased what would become the P Bar 3 Charolais Ranch in 1971 located near Irvine, AB. This ranch became one of the most successful purebred Charolais cattle operations in Canada. To this day, P Bar 3 genetics can be found throughout North America and Europe. Lorna and Reg retired to Medicine Hat in 1997. In their retirement years, they enjoyed many trips abroad. Lorna spent many enjoyable hours tending her many gardens and cultivating her outdoor flowers and indoor violets. Lorna loved doing crafts and produced many lovely petit point and cross-stitch pictures over the years. She also made special Christmas ornaments for her grandchildren every year. In her later years, Lorna lived at Chinook Village from 2015 to 2020 and then moved to the Good Samaritan South Ridge Village in February 2020. Lorna’s family would like to acknowledge and thank all of the nurses and staff at the Good Samaritan’s for their dedication and support over Lorna’s last few months. The graveside service will be held at Saamis Prairie View Cemetery, on October 22, 2021 at 11:00 am .
