ELFRIEDE ERNA KRIESEL

Our beloved Elfriede Erna Kriesel passed away peacefully on November 23, 2021, at the age of 81, following a courageous 25 year battle with cancer. She was married to her teenage sweetheart and love of her life, Gerhard, for over 62 years. Born in Germany, Elfriede moved to Canada with their infant son and husband to join her brother Arnold and family in Medicine Hat in 1960. A few years later, Elfriede and Gerhard along with their friend and partner, Theo Boldt established ‘European Coiffures’ which was a thriving small business in Medicine Hat for over 40 years. Elfriede’s life was dedicated to serving others. One of her greatest pleasures was volunteering at the Hospital Gift shop for over 38 years, serving on the cancer board for several years all while working in the family business and building a loving home. She was an amazing cook and delighted family and guests with her gourmet meals and special cakes. Elfriede had a gift for making other people happy, providing comfort and giving hope and inspiration especially to those suffering from cancer which she ‘climbed back’ from time and time again. She will be very sadly missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her. In addition to her loving husband, Gerhard, who was by her side every day until she completed her journey here with us, Elfriede is survived by her son, Andre and his wife, Rosemarie. She was able to witness her three wonderful grandchildren, Jasmine, Joshua and Bridget blossom into young adults. She also leaves one sister, Gisela Errelat and her partner Bill; sister-in-law, Dorothea Kriesel; nephew, Udo Errelat and his wife, Donna; niece, Marina Budczinski and her husband, Mitchell together with several other beloved nieces and nephews. Elfriede was predeceased by her parents, Erna and August; brother, Arnold Errelat and wife Leni; sisters, Marianne and Magdalene as well as nieces, Angelika and Elfie Errelat. A private service will be held for family and close friends and a Celebration of Life in honour of Elfriede will be arranged at a later date.
