Annie Gerardina Pastoor (Post/Schmal), wife of Dirk Willem Pastoor, passed away at South Country Haven View, on January 28, 2022. Beloved mother to Wesley (Binhwa) Post, Natalie (Brent) Sauer, Coin Post, Brenna Oulette, Tina (Randy) Pastoor, Teresa Pastoor, Robert (Sharmon) Pastoor, Rodney (Nancy) Pastoor; Oma to Jaclyn (Grey) Sauer, Jen (Andy) Kerslake, Jerrid (Benita) Sauer, Alannah Reinhardt, Alex Reinhardt, Cassandra Oulette, Nicolas Oulette, Abbott Knezic, Piercon Knezic, Mackenzie Meunier, Chase Pastoor, Jordyn Pastoor, Talina Pastoor, Tylan Pastoor; great Oma to Kora and Lincoln Sauer and Mason & Jonah Kerslake; sister of Frank (Nel+) Schmal, Jim+ (Linda) Schmal, John (Helen) Schmal, Jan Schmal, Peggy Schmal; in-laws, Klaas+ & Jantina+ Pastoor, Pieter+ (Mavis) Pastoor, Frouk Taal+ and Bill (Phyllis) Pastoor; as well as being much loved by extended family and friends. Anne was born in Alphen aan den Rijn, The Netherlands, January 31, 1936, to Franciscus & Anna Schmal. There she grew up with four brothers who adored her. Growing up during World War II took its toll and her family bravely set out to their new county in Canada. The memories of entering Pier 21 in Halifax, made a real impact on her and it was very important to her to return there later in her life to see the book that her family had signed when they entered their new country. Medicine Hat became their chosen community. Here Anne married and had her three children, Wesley, Natalie & Colin. She stayed at home and raised her family until the time was right for her to begin her career in bookkeeping. She worked for various businesses, settling at Hat Hardware and working proudly for Mr. Harry Veiner. Anne married Dirk Pastoor in 1984 and through their marriage became the mother of four more children, Tina, Teresa, Robert and Rodney. Dirk & Anne moved to Lethbridge and worked together for the family company – Ducan Industries until their retirement. Retirement brought them to a beautiful home in Sanca, BC where they enjoyed time on Kootenay Lake. They also travelled down south in their motorhome for many years and were proud to say they visited 49 states. History was one of her passions and she enjoyed visiting historical places such as civil war cemeteries, museums, and the Statue of Liberty being one of her favorites. Our mother had a beautiful singing voice and sang in many choirs and with her trio The Masters Touch. Her gift of music was her ministry to many. She loved the Lord, and we know that she is now ‘Safe in Jesus Arms’ (Veilig in Jezus Armen). Her family would like to thank all the loving staff at Haven View for their kindness and care they gave to our mother over the past years and to her most devoted and loving husband who was always by her side. A Celebration of Anne’s Life will take place at a future date. Memorial Gifts in Anne’s memory may be made to the Parkinson Association of Alberta, 120 – 6835 Railway Street SE, Calgary, Alberta, T2H 2V6.
