The Family of Darlene Ann Aberle is deeply saddened to share the news of her passing at the Rockyview General Hospital on March 19, 2022 at the age of 71 years.

Darlene will be dearly missed by her brother and sister-in-law Floyd and Phyllis Aberle of Calgary, her nephew Dennis (Alison) of Calgary, her niece Karen (Anthony) of Wetaskiwin, her great-niece Nicole (Jake) of Airdrie, her great-nephew Jacob of Calgary and her lifelong friend Anita Hyde of Medicine Hat. Darlene was predeceased by her father Ralph on September 19, 1967, her brother Barry on February 13, 2005 and her mother Magdalene Hasper on November 24, 2017. Darlene was born in Medicine Hat AB on October 15, 1950. After graduating from McCoy High School, Darlene was proud to be the first of her family to go on to post-secondary. She attended St Michael’s School of Nursing in Lethbridge AB, graduating in June 1973 and later earned her Bachelor of Nursing from the University of Calgary in November 1994. Darlene began her nursing career at the Medicine Hat General Hospital followed by two years at Barlow Hospital in Los Angeles California before moving to Calgary in the fall of 1979 where she worked at the Colonel Belcher, Rockyview and Peter Lougheed Hospitals until her retirement in June 2006.

Darlene enjoyed travelling around the US with her friend Brona, whom she met while working at Barlow Hospital in LA, her yearly trips to BC with her mother and her special excursions cruising to Mexico, exploring the east coast of the US and Canada and touring all the sights in China. Following retirement, she spent several winters escaping the cold visiting Brona in Southern California. Darlene loved spending time with her extended family, especially her nieces and nephews, and she loved animals, particularly her rabbit “Bunny” and her poodle “Ten” and then there were the finches….. .

Darlene’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the compassionate teams that cared for her this past year – Unit 47 at the Foothills Medical Centre, the Bonavista Unit at the Southwood Care Centre and Unit 74 at the Rockyview General Hospital. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

A Memorial Service will be held at Mountain View Funeral Home (Arbor Chapel, 1605 – 100 Street SE, Calgary) on Thursday, March 24, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made in Darlene’s name directly to the Canadian Cancer Society #200, 325 Manning Road NE Calgary AB T2A 2P5 or to the charity of one’s choice.
