JAN SCHMAL

1941 – 2022

On May 15th Jan celebrated his final birthday (according to Jan everyday was his birthday) and peacefully ducked out of this world. His final words…Ooobally WOW WOW.

Chet Atkins once said “Once you become predictable no ones interested anymore”. Jan was never predictable and that’s what made him so memorable. If he stated “you’re so ugly”, “you need a slap?”, or “scheisse in the hose” you knew it was just Jan and were never truly offended by it (most anyhow). His love for music shone through the many instruments he played and recordings he constructed. He made numerous albums not only as a solo artist but also with various bands and members all over the world. He loved to travel and showcased his talent in many countries. He was a brilliant artist with an uncanny sense of humour and will be missed by many.

He leaves to cherish his memory his sons, “Fly” Chester, Winston (Christie Wilson) and Andrew (Kim) Schmal; daughters, Rebecca Schmal and Wil Schmal; grandchildren, Emma, Dominic, Alexander, Alessia, Kaeylarae, Erasmus, Arie, Mikayla, Maddie and Kyle; great grandchild, Lyla; Jans brothers, Frank Schmal and John (Helen) Schmal. Jan was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Ann Schmal; brother, Jim Schmal; and sister, Anne Pastoor.

An Open-Mic concert/celebration will be on June 1st, 2022 starting at 6:30pm at LIQUID Concert & Event Venue at 638 14th Street SW, Medicine Hat, Alberta T1A 4V6. Please bring your guitar, bass, kazoo, spoons, a recording, etc and let’s share our talents and memories. Condolences may be made at www.gracememorial.com.
