ELEONOR CHRISTIE 1940 – 2023
Eleanor Beth Christie was born in Bateman, Saskatchewan to parents Norman and Florence Austin on February 22, 1940. She passed away peacefully on December 15, 2023, at the age of 83 years, after years of pain. She leaves behind her children Roxanne Gaucher (Dave Harrison), Cherryl (Rob) Jackle, Dan Gaucher (Fay Schmaltz), Michelle Gaucher, Keith (Darilyn) Gaucher and a special step-daughter Shelley (Keith) Mattson. Eleanor had thirteen grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Norma Frank.
After Teachers College, she accepted a position in Coderre, Saskatchewan to teach eight grades in a one-room schoolhouse. It was here that she met her first husband Denis Gaucher, when he was delivering fuel to the school. After a quick romance, they married and created a family with five children. The family moved to Redcliff in 1973. Denis was killed in a car accident in 1979. Eleanor then married Frank Christie in 1983. He passed away in 1999. Eleanor was also predeceased by her grandson Jack Smith and four siblings.
Eleanor was a fantastic homemaker with superior skills in cooking, sewing, knitting, crocheting, balancing the family budget and organizing huge family get-togethers. She was also very active as a volunteer with the Redcliff Legion; which earned her citizen of the year awards in 2010 and 2014. She is known as a very feisty lady who had a strong sense about the “right” way to do things!
The family would like to thank the wonderful and caring staff at River Ridge who went way above and beyond to make her life the best it could be, we are so grateful.
On Friday, December 22, 2023, a private family graveside service will take place. Her family would like to invite you to a celebration of her life to be held at the Redcliff Legion, (302 Broadway Ave NE) on Friday December 22, 2023, at 3:00 p.m. To leave a message of condolence you may visit www.pattisonfuneralhome.com.
