September 24, 1964 ~ MAMO A. MENESHO ~ April 10, 2025

Mamo Akalu Menesho passed away on April 10, 2025, at the age of 60 years, surrounded by his loving wife and two sons. He is survived by his wife, Wayni; two sons, Daniel and Binyam; brothers, sisters, and mother. Mamo was born in Meko, Ethiopia to Akalu Menesho and Zewditu Ashine. He earned a Statistics degree from Addis Ababa University in 1987 and later began working for the Ministry of Transport and Communication. There he met and fell in love with his future wife Wayni, marrying her in 1994. Soon after, Mamo immigrated to Canada and settled in Medicine Hat, with Wayni joining later in 1997. They welcomed their two sons shortly after. Mamo worked hard to support his family, eventually earning a degree in nursing from the University of Calgary in 2007. He worked as an RN for over 10 years, beginning at the hospital before ending his career in Home Care. He enjoyed several fond memories where he was loved by all his coworkers and patients. Mamo loved to garden, and all who stopped by had the pleasure of seeing many beautiful flowers adorn his backyard. Among his other passions were camping, golfing, travelling, and spending time with family and countless friends. Close to Mamo’s heart was his faith. Mamo was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in 2000. He served his God Jehovah faithfully, generously donating time regularly to share his faith with others in the community. During his illness, Mamo found comfort from the words of Psalm 41:3, and Revelation 21:3,4, on which his hope for the future rested. Mamo was especially known by all as a loving, kind, generous, hospitable, and compassionate brother, husband, father and friend. His infectious laugh will be dearly missed. The family would like to thank all the staff involved in Mamo’s treatment and care over the years and in his final days. A heartfelt thanks goes out to the countless number of friends that provided support in many ways, from simply stopping by for a visit to providing a home-cooked meal. A service will be held Friday, April 18, 2025, at 1:30 PM at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 62 Valleyview Dr SW, Medicine Hat. All are welcome.
