RAE KNUTSON June 4, 1953 – April 13, 2025
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Rachelle “Rae” Louise Knutson, who passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 13, 2025, surrounded by her loving family, at the age of 71 years.
Born, raised, and deeply rooted in Medicine Hat, Rae was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She shared 52 wonderful years of marriage with her husband, Don Knutson, and together they built a life full of love, laughter, and unwavering devotion to their family.
Rae was a proud and devoted mother to Cari Knutson (Jason Hertz) and Kevin Knutson (Karen Knutson). Her greatest joy was being “Grandma” to her cherished grandchildren: Cooper and Coen Ryckman, and Emma and Abbey Knutson. Time spent with them was always her happiest.
Rae was predeceased by her loving parents, Jean and Mickey Moore, and is survived by her dear sisters, Betty O’Bray (Ralph O’Bray) and Heather Flinn (Pat Flinn), along with many extended family members and friends who were touched by her generous spirit and kind heart.
She dedicated 33 years of service as an Administrative Assistant with the Medicine Hat School District, working at several schools across the city. One of her most treasured experiences was working at her childhood elementary school, Vincent Massey, where she had the rare and joyful opportunity to work alongside her daughter while her grandsons attended the school. Her dedication, warmth, and genuine care left a lasting impression on students, staff, and families alike.
Rae and Don shared a love for the open road, spending many happy summers touring in their Corvette with friends and enjoying peaceful camping trips together. When the seasons changed, Rae embraced winter with the same energy staying active at the gym, enjoying curling at the Medicine Hat Curling Club, and cheering on her Medicine Hat Tigers.
She had a deep love for singing, art, and volunteering. Rae gave countless hours to the Root Cellar Food and Wellness Hub and the Santa Claus Fund, always ready with a warm smile and helping hands.
Above all, Rae will be remembered for the love she shared and the joy she brought to everyone around her. She truly was loved by all.
All who knew and loved Rae are welcome to attend and celebrate her life at the PATTISON FUNERAL HOME & CELEBRATION OF LIFE CENTRE on Monday, April 21, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. with Life Celebrant David Townsend officiating. The service will be live streamed. Those who wish to attend virtually, please visit Rae’s obituary page on our website, for the link. Private interment will take place at Hillside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Rae’s memory to the Root Cellar Food and Wellness Hub or Santa Claus Fund. To leave a message of condolence you may visit www.pattisonfuneralhome.com.

Willie and I are heartbroken for all of you. Rae was honestly, one of the nicest, kindest, genuine, loving, happy people I have ever met. Her love of family and life was contagious – I know personally, I aspired to be more – “Rae like”. I know how much she loved and lived for her treasured family. Bless you all. Sending the biggest hug, love and prayers. 💋

  3. Judy and Rodger Vizbar says:

    Dear Don and Family,

We were shocked to read of Rae’s passing and send our deepest sympathies to you all. I first met Rae when I was applying for a job at Vincent Massey’s library and continued to see her periodically. As a family, we went camping together and there was always time for a chat when we met in Costco.
She will be missed but know that she will keep an eye on you …
