LOUISE MAIER 1943~ 2026

It is with deep love and sadness that we announce the passing of Louise Maier, on Thursday, March 26, 2026, at the age of 82 years, a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, a friend to many. Louise will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Tina Sackman (and her husband Rick) and Tanis Riechelmann (and her husband, Kim). She was a proud, cherished grandmother, to Brandon Sackman (and his wife, Stephanie), Marc Sackman (and his wife Tara), Taylene Maier, Emily Maier, Tenille Riechelmann (and her partner, Braeden Renschler), and Tyler Riechelmann. She was also a deeply loved great-grandmother, to Sawyer Sackman, Sadie Sackman, Axel Sackman, Alice Sackman, and Tucker Maier. She will also be greatly missed by her siblings, Chuck Watkins (and his wife Mary Ellen), Ralph Watkins (and his wife Pauline), and her sister-in-law, Isabelle Hansen. Louise was predeceased by her parents, Joe and Bessie Watkins, her husband, Herb Maier and her son, Darwin Maier.

Louise began her working life along side her husband in their family business, Handy Delivery. She later followed her passion and entrepreneurial spirit by opening Leading Lady Beauty Salon, eventually followed by the addition of Tropical Tanning. Over her 30 year career in the beauty industry, Louise touched countless lives. She was more than a stylist, she was a confidant, a listener, and often a source of comfort and advice. Her chair was a place where people felt heard, cared for, and uplifted. For many years you could find Louise and Herb at the bowling alley, having a great time with friends and family.

Beyond her career, Louise was a gifted artist, with a true love for pottery and all things creative. Whether at teaching kids at Medalta, working with clay in her home studio, or with her friends at the Cultural Center, she found joy in creating beautiful pieces that reflected her talent and creativity. Many admired her work, and those who knew her often spoke of her artistic eye and passion-traits which she passed down to her many grandchildren.

Louise always found great happiness in her garden, where she spent countless hours tending to it, and making it her own peaceful space. She generously volunteered her time with the Horticultural Society, at the Esplanade, eventually becoming head of House, at Unity Lutheran Church, and served various other local groups and organizations. She also took great pride in working with local schools, helping to collect and display children’s artwork-a role she embraced with enthusiasm.

Louise will be remembered for her kindness, humor, creativity, and the genuine care she showed to everyone she met. She leaves behind a legacy of love, artistry, and connection that will not be forgotten. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Those who wish to pay their respects may do so in the PATTISON FUNERAL HOME & CELEBRATION OF LIFE CENTRE on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  The celebration of life will take place in the PATTISON FUNERAL HOME & CELEBRATION OF LIFE CENTRE on Thursday, April 2, 2026, at 1:00 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, those who wish to remember Louise with a donation may do so to the Friends of Medalta (https://medalta.org/donate/).  To leave a message of condolence you may visit www.pattisonfuneralhome.com.
