GORDON LUNSETH 1940 ~ 2026
Gordon Raymond Lunseth of Whitla, Alberta passed way peacefully surrounded by his family one month shy of his 86th birthday at Medicine Hat Regional Hospital. Gordon was born on May 17, 1940, to Carl and Ellen Lunseth and lived on the second Lunseth family farm until his passing. He is survived by his wife, Linda (Olechowski); his son, Joseph (Patty) Rooks of Whitla; his daughter, Rainell (Micheal) Herter of Medicine Hat; his grandchildren, Jesseppe (Cheyenne and children Alice and Oakley) and Cody (Allyssa Sweeney) Herter as well as Ayden and Victoria Rooks were his treasure and will miss him dearly. He was preceded by his father, Carl (1997), his mother, Ellen (1998), sisters, Sharon (2009) and Carol (2008). His brothers, Gilbert (Kathi) and Barry (Susan) and their families also mourn his loss. Gordon was a man of simple means, and he instilled this in his family. The farm meant everything to him, and he could not wait to return there once he was healthy enough after a brief illness last fall. After his cancer surgery in 2012, helping daily outside became increasingly difficult but his heart never left the pulse of the farm and what was going on each and every day. He found pleasure waking each morning and sitting in his chair at the kitchen table so he could look out the window at the Herford/Angus herd. He enjoyed seeing the calves this spring scurry around the pasture and was the first to tell you that you had better head out to look as there was another “baby” coming. In the last few years, Gordon enjoyed going on crop tours to see the seedlings emerging, what everyone was seeding and again when it was about time to combine. His years of wisdom and advice was always welcome, and these drives were treasured times together. One could always ensure a smile on Gordon’s face when you stopped by for a cup of coffee with haystacks, pumpkin pie or scotch mints. If he delivered fuel early in the morning, the grandkids knew Grandpa needed a cup of coffee with light cream and a treat to start his day always running in the house to prepare it for him if they were not already waiting at the tractor or combine for him. They enjoyed sitting in the truck visiting and helping him fuel up the machinery for the day. It was a special bond he developed with them and his grandchildren knew his sweet tooth and always “snuck” him little treats whenever they could to brighten his day – if there were any left! He has left a legacy he was so very proud of. As per Gordon’s request, no formal funeral service will be held but there will be a celebration of his life announced at a later date for friends and family to gather and share memories together. In good farm fashion, a private family memorial will be held once the seeds are in the ground and we can gather, share treasured stories and spread his ashes where his life started at the original Lunseth Homestead “Down Home”. We are deeply grateful for the kindness, support and love we have received during this time. To leave a message of condolence you may visit www.pattisonfuneralhome.com.
