MARIETTA
THEODORE “TED” ORVILLE MARIETTA, of Lethbridge, beloved father, grandfather and friend, passed away peacefully at the Chinook Regional Hospital on Tuesday, May 5, 2026 at the age of 70 years, after battling cancer.
He is survived by his three daughters: Faye Klassen (Henry) of Lethbridge, and their son Owen Klassen; Claire Hall (Caleb) of Texas, and their nine children: Titus, Samuel, Maya, Mary, Eve, Bethany, Miriam, Moses and Cyrus; and Janelle Marietta of Lethbridge, and her three children: Addison Rogg, Jude Rogg, Ethan Marietta, and former partner Kevin Rogg. He also leaves behind his sister Suzanne Leak and her children Craig Taylor (Katie), John Leak (Jenny), and Karen Leak (Darren); as well as his sister-in-law Jean Marietta and her daughter Tina Cooper Townend.
He was predeceased by his mother, Margaret Kirk, father Orville Marietta, brother Beverley Marietta, sister Avis Marietta, brother-in-law Paul Leak, and his nephew Paul Marietta.
Ted was born in Lethbridge, Alberta, at the St Michael’s Hospital. At the age of two, he moved to England with his mother and siblings and was raised in Barwick-in-Elmet, England. He moved to Red Cliff in 1977 and back to Lethbridge in 1979 with his wife Helen to raise their children.
Ted began his policing career in England before continuing his service as a police officer in Red Cliff and Lethbridge. During his years with the police service, he proudly served as President of the Lethbridge Police Association. In his later years, Ted worked as a taxi driver, where he enjoyed meeting and visiting with people throughout the community. Beyond his career, Ted had a deep love of astronomy and was highly involved with the Lethbridge Astronomy Society back in the 1990s. He loved music and was a wonderful guitar player. He was a devoted supporter of Leeds United F.C., as well as an avid chess and crib player who especially enjoyed a game with his grandchildren. Let the record state that Ted’s gravy was the best, but Janelle made better Yorkshire pudding.
A Private Family Service will be held at later date. Cremation entrusted to Cornerstone Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lethbridge Astronomy Society (https://www.canadahelps.org/en/charities/lethbridge-astronomy-society/) or to the Alberta First Responders Association (ourafra.ca)
