1939 ~ 2013
MRS. KATHLEEN JEAN REMPEL (nee Westworth) of Lethbridge beloved wife of Mr. Paul Rempel passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family after a long courageous battle with Alzheimer’s Disease on Monday, April 1, 2013 at the age of 73 years.
Kathleen was born to Bertram and Agnes Westworth on August 9, 1939 in Coleman, AB. She spent her early years in Coleman before moving to Crossfield and then settling in Cadomin where her family owned the hotel. In the early 1950’s the town of Cadomin was destroyed by floods; the family then moved to Neville, SK where her family again owned and operated the local hotel. She completed her education in Neville, where she met many life long friends including her loving husband of 52 years Paul. She came to Lethbridge to attend business school later returning to Saskatchewan to work at the bank in Leader, SK. In 1960 Kathleen and Paul were married, moving briefly to Swift Current before finally settling in Lethbridge, where they raised their family. Kathleen was a homemaker for many years, spending endless hours baking, cooking and canning before returning back to work with the Green Acres Foundation. While working for Green Acres she gave her heart to many people and made many friends. Paul and Kathleen enjoyed many years camping with friends at her favourite spots in Waterton, Blairmore and Fort Macleod. Her time spent with family and friends was what she treasured most.
Besides her loving husband Paul, Kathleen is survived by her daughters Kimberly and Kelly (Wallace Korver) all of Lethbridge; sisters-in-law Hilda and Kay both of Winnipeg, MB; brother-in-law Peter of Kelowna, BC; as well as her beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and their families.
Kathleen was predeceased by her parents, brother Arthur David Westworth, sister-in-law Margaret Westworth, infant sister Marion, mother-in-law and father-in-law Anna and Peter Rempel.
A special thanks to Dr. Stocks, Dr. Ikuda, Dr. Li the staff of 5A, and the numerous home care and support staff that have helped care for Mom the past three years.
