REIMER Deidrich

Posted: January 9th, 2014

1928 ~ 2013 Deidrich “Dick” Reimer of Lethbridge, beloved husband of the late Bergatha “Betty” Reimer, passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness on December 31, 2013 at the age of 85 years.

Dick was born on December 4, 1928 to Abram and Margaretha Reimer in Wymark, Saskatchewan. He grew up in a loving family of 14 children and is survived by his sisters Madeline Ozga of Regina and Irene Gabriel of Calgary, and brothers Irwin of Simmie, SK and Ernie of Calgary. Dick ventured out from the Saskatchewan farm for a new life in Southern Alberta where he met and married the love of his life, Betty Areshenko. Dick and Betty were dedicated to each other for 56 years prior to her passing in 2011 and raised 3 children: Carol Ariza (grandchildren Erin, Ashley, and Holly) of Los Angeles, CA; Richard Reimer of Stirling (Glory and grandchildren Kevin, Mandy, Kelsie, Mason, Kayley and Mark); and Natalie Shaby of Manhattan Beach, CA (David and grandchildren Tanya and David). Dick retired from the Canadian Pacific Railroad in 1986 and was tireless in his care of Betty after she became a paraplegic. He loved to work in his garden, ride his motorcycles and seadoo, and cruise the city streets in his prized “Dukes of Hazzard” Dodge Charger. Dick enjoyed traveling and retelling his adventures to family and friends. He was always up to visit his daughters in Southern California or join them in Southern France and Germany. Dick was a founding member of the Lethbridge Twinning City and as an official representative of the City of Lethbridge, traveled to St. Laurent Quebec and Kaizuka, Japan for exchange programs, to Culver City CA for the Culver City Sister City Committee’s 50th Anniversary Celebration, and to Washington DC for the Sister Cities International Conference. His home was always open to host out-of-town visitors or local meetings and functions. Dick will be remembered for his kind, gentle and patient manner, his fierce independence and his amazing physical agility. Quick to smile and laugh, his sense of humor endeared him to all who knew him. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, January 4, 2014 at MARTIN BROTHERS RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610-4th Street South, Lethbridge, AB. Interment to follow in the Mountain View Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Lethbridge Twinning Society, 129 Riverwood Manor West, Lethbridge, Alberta, T1K 7X4. Send condolences at www.mbfunerals.com.
