NORMA ALICE (STEVENS) GARNER, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2018 at the age of 89.
Alice was born March 6, 1928, in Magrath, Alberta, the fourth child of Harold and Lucy Adeline White Stevens.
She was predeceased by her loving husband Kenneth Wayne Garner, her parents and her three older brothers: Ronald William Stevens, Reginald Glen Stevens, and Jack Desmond Stevens.
She is survived by her younger brother Lawrence Addison (Sham) Stevens (Joanne) of Okotoks; her six children: Gary (Kaye) of Lethbridge; Mark of Taber; Scott of Stirling; Lee (Dee Ann) of Lethbridge; Wade (Steven) of Edmonton; Carolyn (Dan) Wood of Fort McMurray; 17 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.
Alice came from a strong LDS background and has always been an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
She married Kenneth in the Cardston Alberta Temple on May 6, 1953. Together they raised their family in Taber, Alberta, where Ken worked for the Municipal District until they moved to Lethbridge to be closer to medical specialists.
In addition to supporting her husband, Alice spent her married life working in various Church capacities including the Primary and the Relief Society. Alice maintained a balance between her two eternal callings — wife and mother.
Alice loved sacred music. For many years, she sang in a double trio. She treasured her association with the other sisters as they sang together at many events. As her health deteriorated, her memory of the hymns remained excellent, and her singing brought much solace and joy.
She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
The family expresses our heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the compassionate care providers and excellent staff at the Edith Cavell Care Centre for their service and tender loving care.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Lethbridge North Meeting House, 2223 – 6 Avenue North. Friends may meet the family from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the service. Interment to follow in Temple Hill Cemetery, Raymond. Alberta.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Lethbridge, #40, 1202 – 2nd Avenue South, Lethbridge, AB T1J 0E3.
