Posted: April 3rd, 2018The Rev. Ronald Edward Stallard
January 21, 1924 – March 26, 2018
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the recent passing of our patriarch: Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Reverend, beloved husband to Molly Stallard, at the St. Michael’s Health Centre – Palliative Care Unit, on Monday, March 26, 2018 at the age of 94 years.
Born to Sidney and Annie Elizabeth in New Glasgow, N.S. and the second of five children. He is pre-deceased by brothers Douglas (Vera), Gordon (Renate), and sister Mary. He is survived by his brother Sidney (Elizabeth).
In his formative years, Ron ran with ‘the gang’ consisting of brothers, cousins, to be rounded out with an assortment of neighbourhood kids. Much of his third decade was spend in Moncton, working in various industries supporting Canada’s contribution to the WW II effort. At this time, he became active in local theatre and was soon to have an ‘ah-ha’ moment. He followed his new calling out west, to be richly blessed through his meeting and marriage to his wife of 59.5 years, Constance Molly. In continuance with his call, he completed his divinity studies at St. John’s College and was ordained into the priesthood in 1967.
During his ministry he had the pleasure of serving five parishes: Peguis, St. Clement’s (Selkirk and area), St. John the Baptist and Pembina Hills, St. Thomas (Winnipeg), and St. Paul’s (Blood Reserve). He was abundantly blessed with the numerous relationships forged during these years of service, and particularly enjoyed working with the various indigenous communities that he was humbled to serve.
He accumulated various hobbies which were to include playing the accordion and autoharp, his love for photography, and his passion for flying, which encapsulated with a brief stint of flying ultra-lights.
He is survived by his two children Donna (Jason) and Jim (Wendy), as well as his three grandchildren Kenn, Juliana, and Lauren.
The family would like to acknowledge the efforts of St. Michael’s Health Centre Palliative Care Unit and express their deep appreciation to the staff. Also, profound gratitude for the compassionate care received from Drs. Dorcas Kennedy, Roland Ikuta, and Brenda Ireland.
In lieu of flowers, it would please the family that efforts are made to support either the Alzheimer Society of Alberta, #40, 1202 – 2 Avenue S, Lethbridge, AB, T1J 0E3, St. Michael’s Palliative Care Unit, 1400 – 9 Avenue S, Lethbridge, AB, T1J 4V5 or STARS Air Ambulance, 1441 Aviation Park NE, Box 570, Calgary, AB, T2W 8M7.
