Raymond Joseph Petit

1937-2018

Mr. Raymond “Peppy” Joseph Petit of Lethbridge passed away at the Chinook Regional Hospital on Thursday September 20, 2018 at the age of 81.

Ray was born on April 10, 1937 in Antler, Saskatchewan to Denise and Cerile. He moved to Lethbridge in 1957 and quickly wove himself into the fabric of Southern Alberta. He married his wife Marlene (Park) in 1959 and they shared 37 wonderful years together raising their two daughters.

After Marlene’s passing in 1996, Ray was blessed to find love again. He married Ruby (Shaw) in 1998 enjoying 10 years together before her passing in 2008.

Ray lived his life in the service of others. After protecting our community for 34 years as a member of the Lethbridge Fire Department, Ray retired as a Platoon Chief in 1998. Ray also served since 1957 with the 20th Independent Field Battery, and as a Major taking command in 1975.

Ray was a proud NDP supporter. He volunteered countless hours and served over 30 years as Local Treasurer. He was proudly team orange long before it was cool to be so. He was a dedicated volunteer for the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Canadian Cancer Society, and Lethbridge Military Museum among others.

Ray was an avid outdoorsman, and spent many cherished moments fishing his favorite spots in Beaver Mines and Duck Lake. He was also a huge sports fan, faithfully cheering on his Habs and Jays. He was a proud Lethbridge Hurricanes season ticket holder for over 30 years.

He will be terribly missed by his daughter, Monique Petit; granddaughter Nicole (Jason) and the sparkle of his eyes, his great granddaughters Brynnley, Callie, and Emslea Kowal. He is also survived by his stepchildren Judy (Kirk) Godlonton, Tim (Shelley) and Montie (Gerie) Shaw and their families.

He leaves behind sisters Joyce (Dennis) Hawes, Bertha Boutin, Marguerite (Steve) Kowbel and brother Roger (Beth) Petit, as well as the beloved Park family; Joe (Linda), Allan (Betty), Stuart (Bev), Lorna and Linda.

He was predeceased by his cherished wives Marlene, Ruby and daughter Michelle.

A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday September 27, 2018 at MARTIN BROTHERS RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610 – 4 Street S., Lethbridge, Alberta, followed by a Wake at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #4, 324 Mayor Magrath Drive South at 3:00 PM.
