MILNE, John
Posted: October 10th, 2018JOHN REID MILNE born October 19,1922 in Lashburn Saskatchewan, passed away peacefully in Cardston Alberta on October 8th, 2018 at 95 years. He has been reunited with the joy of his life, Thelma Sheffield Milne. John was blessed with 4 children: Elaine Swanson (Vern), Gordon Milne (Hollie), Robin Goates (Blair), and Maralyn English (Scott). He had 12 grandchildren and 36 great grandchildren. John was preceded in death by his wife (Thelma), 4 siblings (Alastair, Peggy, Eileen and Mary), a daughter (Elaine) and a grandson (Brett).
John was a civil engineer and worked for PFRA before starting business with Fooks and Milne in Lethbridge and then Stoy Concrete in Calgary. John and Thelma retired to Cardston in 1980.
John was active with his family, community and church. He served on Cardston’s town council (1980-1982), was involved with the Rotary Club, served as a bishop twice, was the mission president in Dearborn Michigan (1982-1985), and served in the Alberta (Cardston) Temple presidency (1986-1991). John and Thelma loved their friends and having parties at their home. He enjoyed reading, puzzles, and playing cards with family and friends. He was impeccably honest and always kind. He was hardworking and enjoyed growing a garden filled with vegetables, strawberries and raspberries as well as helping with various projects in the community He loved to travel. He loved and was deeply loved by his children and grandchildren, who will miss his loving interest in their lives.
The Funeral service will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Cardston Alberta Stake Center on Saturday, October 13th at 2:00 p.m. Friends may meet the family from 1:00 to 1:45 p.m. prior to the service. Interment will follow in the Cardston Cemetery.
