Norma MacKay (Coates)

It is with broken hearts we announce the passing of our mother, Norma MacKay (Coates), who passed away peacefully April 5th, 2022, in Edmonton, AB at the age of 85. Norma will be missed by her three children: Diane, Cathy, and Rob (Kathy) and her six grandchildren: Alex, Sydney, Spencer, Jaxsen, Dannon and Cole. Norma was a devoted mother, amazing grandmother, and beloved sister to Bryan (Linda) Coates and Roy (Linda) Coates. Norma was born in Etzikom and raised in Lethbridge, AB, where she had a career as a registered nurse and nursing instructor at St. Michael’s Hospital. She also met and married her late husband Colin MacKay there in 1961.

Norma had many wonderful friends and family in Lethbridge, and she loved and valued each one of you. It gives my sisters and I great comfort to know she had so many close people in her life. Whether it was playing bridge, golfing, or going to dinner parties, she always had amazing times and wonderful stories to tell. Norma may have lived in Vancouver, Toronto, and Palm Springs, but Lethbridge was her home, and it was where she loved to be.

Norma will always be known for her patience and support of those around her. The memories of family trips, card games and hours of reading warms our hearts. It is only through these thoughts that we can balance the feeling that she was lost too soon.

She will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

Nursing students at St. Michael’s in the early ’60s were blessed to have your mother as our medical-surgical instructor! She knew her subjects well & she had a sense of humour! Great memories!
