THOMPSON, Sandra
Posted: June 6th, 2026 Sandra Gail Marie (Sandy) Thompson (nee Grisak) It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Sandy on May 21st, 2026. She was 78 years old and passed peacefully with family by her side in the Vernon Jubilee Hospital.
Sandy is survived by her spouse of 50 years, Keith; their six children, Tim (Sue), Greg (Teresa), John (Jennifer), Randy (Terry), Gwen (Ira) and Marie (Rob); fourteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Sandy was born on September 15th, 1947 in Lethbridge, Alberta, the daughter of the late Catherine and John Grisak. She was a loving wife, mom, grandma and great-grandma. During her younger years, she was a stay-at-home mom who ensured everyone was well looked after. When Keith retired, they hit the road with their trailer, traveling to many locations during their summer excursions. One of the places they enjoyed heading to was Leavenworth, where they spent hours in the Christmas store, much to Keith’s chagrin! One of their adventures was attending the annual Merritt Mountain Music Festival where they enjoyed a multitude of country singers and creating life long memories and friendships. September became an annual family camping trip to Bear Creek Provincial Park. This event became an invasion of the Thompson clan, taking up multiple spots and on Saturday night they were found singing, very loudly, Happy Birthday.
While at home Sandy loved to work in the garden and bake her famous sugar cookies. She could frequently be found taking a break in the back yard, enjoying a glass of wine and watching the birds in the bird bath. During family get-togethers, it was all about how many photos she could get the group to pose for. She also enjoyed lunch at the local pubs where she could catch up with family friends.
A private Graveside Service took place in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery on Tuesday, June 2nd, 2026 at 11:00 A.M. A Celebration of Sandy’s Life will be held at a later date, when many pictures, laughter and stories about her will be shared.
The family would like to thank the Staff of the ICU Department of the Vernon Jubilee Hospital for their outstanding care and compassion. Their kindness and support did not waiver.
Funeral arrangements were made with BETHEL FUNERAL CHAPEL LTD. 5605-27th Street, Vernon, B.C. V1T 8Z5 250-542-1187
