ALLAN BLOCK 1952 ~ 2026 It is with great sadness that the family of Allan Edward Block announces his passing on April 8, 2026, at the age of 73 years.
Born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, on July 11, 1952, Al was raised and spent most of his life in Lethbridge, Alberta. He was the beloved husband of Carol and was looking forward to celebrating their 51st wedding anniversary later that month.
Al was a man of many talents and interests. A gifted musician from a young age, he earned his Grade 6 piano certificate through the Royal Conservatory of Music and remained a lifelong enthusiast of jazz and big band music. His instrument of choice was the saxophone.
During his youth, he enjoyed playing baseball, as well as building and flying radio-controlled airplanes.
He graduated from Lethbridge Collegiate Institute in 1970. After graduation, he attended SAIT, initially enrolling in the aeronautics program before switching programs and going on to earn international and Red Seal certifications as both an automotive and heavy-duty mechanic. Throughout his career, he worked in the automotive, trucking, and golf course construction industries, operated Bridgetown Motorsport, and later established AEB Mechanical.
Committed to lifelong learning, Al earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Lethbridge in 1998, developing a particular interest in archaeology, geology, and the natural world. Al was an avid reader who preferred paper books over digital media and enjoyed participating in book exchanges. He remained a daily newspaper subscriber and enjoyed reading all genres of books and magazines.
Al was passionate about British sports cars, Harley-Davidson motorcycles, motorsports, golf, travel, and sports. Whether restoring vehicles, attending major sporting events, travelling with family, or supporting local music and community organizations, he embraced life with enthusiasm and curiosity.
Among his greatest joys were his family, especially his son, Keane, with whom he shared a love of sports, including BMX, baseball, and hockey, and later in life, mechanics and motorsports. In recent years, his grandchildren, Atlas and Astoria, brought him immense pride and happiness.
Al was predeceased by his father, Ernie Block; stepmother, Marg Forish-Block; brother, Douglas Block; and parents-in-law, Edwin and Clara Flaig.
He is survived by his loving wife, Carol; son, Keane (Vanessa Gillespie); grandchildren, Atlas and Astoria; mother, Jean Buxton; sisters, Brenda (Ken Greenan) and Carol (Art Riendeau); as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
