WAAGE It is with love and gratitude for a life well lived that we announce the passing of JANICE ARLENE WAAGE (née Baker), on Saturday, June 27, 2026 at the age of 90 years. Janice was born on February 23, 1936, in Madison County, Montana.
Janice was the youngest of three children born to Lelan and Florence Baker. She graduated from high school in Sheridan, Montana, before earning her teaching degree from Montana State University in Missoula, beginning a lifelong passion for education and learning.
In June 1959, Janice married Daunne Warburton. Together they raised four children: Bonnie Wetmore, Sandy (Patti) Warburton, April (Jim) Brower, and Shaun (Linda) Warburton. Janice was a proud grandmother to eleven grandchildren and a cherished great-grandmother to nineteen great-grandchildren. Daunne passed away in 1990.
Janice later found love again and married Helmut Waage of Milk River, Alberta. Together they shared 31 wonderful years filled with companionship, laughter, and adventure before Helmut’s passing.
A dedicated educator, Janice’s teaching career spanned nearly four decades and crossed international borders. Her journey in education took her to schools in Montana, Florida, and Virginia before she returned to Alberta. The final 25 years of her career were spent teaching a Sunnysite Colony near Warner, Alberta, where she touched the lives of countless students and families. Her patience, kindness, and commitment to learning left a lasting legacy in the communities she served.
Janice was an enthusiastic sports fan throughout her life. Whether cheering for the Toronto Blue Jays and Toronto Raptors, coaching high school girls’ volleyball and slow pitch softball, or proudly supporting her grandchildren in high school rodeo and many other athletic pursuits, she rarely missed an opportunity to encourage those she loved. Her energy, enthusiasm, and unwavering support were gifts treasured by family and friends alike.
Janice will be remembered for her devotion to her family, her dedication to education, her love of sports, and her ability to make everyone around her feel valued and encouraged. Her legacy lives on through her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, former students, and all who were fortunate enough to know her.
She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
