WHEELER, Darren

WHEELER DARREN TODD WHEELER of Lethbridge, beloved husband of Penny Wheeler, passed away at Foothills Medical Centre on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, surrounded by his loved ones.
Darren was predeceased by his parents, Vincent and Esther Wheeler; his parents-in-law, Sharon and Roy Cody; his brother, Jim (Ivy) Wheeler; and his sister, Barbara Kay Santino (Wheeler); and his brother-in-law, Danny Santino.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Penny Wheeler; his daughters, Jacy Wheeler and her son, Liam; Jalena Bonertz (Jason) and their daughter, Elizabeth; Karla Pontarolo Dhanda (Ravi); and Manda Bunning and her son, Dakota. He is also survived by his brother, Gary Wheeler; his sister, Marilyn (Jamie) Christie; his sisters-in-law, Cindy Wolfer and Kelly (Brad) Deschamps; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and treasured friends.
Born on September 13, 1966, Darren was the youngest of five children. He was deeply loved by many and had a huge impact on everyone fortunate enough to know him. His endless jokes and stories filled even the most ordinary days with laughter, engulfing our world with his vibrant light. Darren had the best superpower for making those around him feel accepted and loved, encouraging everyone around him to be their true selves. The love he shared with his family is one that will transcend both time and space.
An outdoorsman at heart and a music fanatic, Darren had a lifelong passion for fishing and hunting and any type of music he could strum on a guitar. There was no greater joy for him than spending time by the water with his family, a sweet treat in one hand and a fishing rod in the other. He could turn any car ride into the best rock-and-roll concert you’d ever attend. Those moments brought him pure happiness and created memories that will be cherished forever.
Though he earned his angel wings far too soon, Darren’s spirit will live on in every story shared, every laugh remembered and every peaceful day spent by the river. While there is an immeasurable emptiness without him, we find comfort imagining him saving a spot by the river for all those he loved.
A Celebration of Darren’s Life will be held at POPSON’S PARK PICNIC SHELTER, Popson’s Park, Lethbridge, Alberta, on Sunday, August 2, 2026, beginning at 11:00 A.M. This will be an informal gathering where family and friends are welcome to come and go throughout the day until 5:00 P.M. Everyone is invited to share stories of Darren, tell their favourite jokes, and celebrate the remarkable life of a man who brought so much laughter, love, and light into the lives of others.
