MESTON July 11, 1952 – August 5, 2026 HUGH ROSS MESTON, aged 74, of Lethbridge, passed away peacefully on August 5, 2026, at Chinook Regional Hospital, surrounded by the children he loved so dearly.
Born on July 11, 1952, in Three Hills, Alberta, Hugh was the cherished son of Eva Gertrude Meston and Thomas Jack Meston. He grew up in Okotoks enjoying school and friends. He lived a life grounded in family, hard work, faith, friendship, adventure, and love.
Hugh was first married to Gail Adair Werner, with whom he shared the joy of raising their children. Following Gail’s passing, Hugh was blessed to find love again with Jean Rose McIntosh-Bannack. Hugh and Jean shared many happy years together in Parksville, BC filled with love, laughter, camping, fishing, friends, and family. They became an important part of each other’s families and created many treasured memories together.
Hugh worked for many years in the oilfields, taking pride in his work and in providing for his family. His strong work ethic and commitment to his family were important parts of who he was.
He was a devoted father to Keltie Adair Meston and Thomas Cole Meston. Hugh supported his children in all they pursued and took great pride in watching them grow. He was especially supportive of Thomas throughout his hockey years, giving his time and encouragement and making sure his son had every opportunity to develop and succeed.
After losing Jean, Hugh moved back to Lethbridge, AB and was a loving and doting grandfather to Jasmyn Adair Pecaver and her husband, Zach Josip Lucas Pecaver, and a proud great-grandfather to Myles Josip Pecaver and Cohen Ross Pecaver. He cherished his time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and found great joy in watching the family grow. His companion Missy was beloved by him and surrounding family bringing comfort warm snuggles and happiness.
Hugh leaves to mourn: his sister, Carol Lynn VanEk and her husband Dirk VanEk; his brother, Douglas Jack Meston; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family, friends, and members of his Masonic Lodge family.
The Lodge was an important part of Hugh’s life, providing fellowship, brotherhood, purpose, and spiritual grounding. He valued integrity, compassion, loyalty, faith, and doing what was right, striving to live those principles throughout his life.
Hugh loved the outdoors and felt especially close to God surrounded by creation. He enjoyed riding quads through the mountains and fishing on the ocean, finding peace, freedom, and a sense of connection in the beauty of the world around him.
Above all, Hugh wanted to be remembered as a good and righteous man – sincere, caring, hardworking, and devoted to his family. He believed that a person’s life was measured not by what they possessed, but by the goodness they brought into the lives of others.
His greatest legacy is found in the people he loved, the family he worked so hard to provide for, and the memories he leaves behind.
May his memory live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him, in the laughter of his family, in the mountains he loved, and in the open waters where he found such peace.
A celebration of Hugh’s life will be held at the PARKBRIDGE ESTATES COMMUNITY HALL, 2920 29th Avenue South, Lethbridge, AB. on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at 2:00 p.m.
Family and friends are warmly invited to gather to share memories, stories, photographs, light nibbles, and Hugh’s favourite coveted cookies.
In the spirit of Hugh, it will be a simple and heartfelt gathering – a time to remember, to laugh, to perhaps shed a few tears, and to celebrate a life that meant so much to so many.
