KARL, Isobel
Posted: September 11th, 2026 ISOBEL KARL 1934 ~ 2026 With deep sadness and much love, the family of Isobel Karl announces her passing on Thursday, August 27, 2026, at St Therese Villa in Lethbridge at the age of 92.
Isobel was a loving sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and a friend to many. She is survived by her daughter Fran Thorson and her children Garrett (Dani), Amy Caufield (Greg) and Craig; her daughter-in-law Sandy Karl and children Cassy (Phil), Corbin (Cindy) and their children Lukas and Luna; and daughter Leslie Larson (Kyle) and their children Karly Lecavalier (Sarah), Kaylin (Kaden) and Justine (George)She is also survived by her siblings Joyce Ervin and Richard Coverdale. Isobel was predeceased by her loving husband of 67 years, Reinhold, her son Tim and son-in-law Gerry, and sister Carol Roberts. She leaves to mourn many loving nieces, nephews and extended family.
Isobel was born in Foremost on January 10, 1934. She completed her schooling in Foremost and then attended Mount Royal in Calgary to obtain a business certificate and also play varsity basketball. After her return to Foremost, she married Reinhold on June 23, 1958, and they lived and raised their three children there. They were the consummate Foremost couple, always so proud of their community, no matter if they were in Parker, Arizona or Lethbridge – Foremost was always home to them.
Isobel worked at the County office for a number of years doing bookkeeping and the tax roll. In 1974, she took over her father’s business (Coverdale’s) and began the busiest years of her career, mixing the store, the family farm and her kids and activities together.
Nothing brought more joy to Isobel than to follow her children to various destinations to enjoy their sporting events and artistic concerts. It was not uncommon to see Isobel and Reinhold anywhere in Alberta on any given weekend, attending some sporting event or a piano recital. They loved to keep involved in the lives of all of their children, all three generations.
Isobel loved sports – curling and softball to name a couple. She also loved doing needlepoint. She has a claim of finishing 19 Christmas stockings for her family. There was so much love stitched into each one of those projects.
Isobel always had a kind heart and looked out for and worried about everyone. Even in the last month, she would walk us to the elevator to wave goodbye. Along with her kind heart, there was always quick wit and a mischievous smirk.
Please join her family in a Celebration of Life, which will take place at 1:00pm on Sunday, September 20, 2026, at the FOREMOST COMMUNITY HALL. Lunch to follow.
