McLEOD September 14, 1942 – September 18, 2026 It is with profound sadness that we announce ANN MCLEOD passed away on Friday, September 18, 2026, from congestive heart failure.
Ann was born in the old Lethbridge Galt Hospital on September 14, 1942, to Annie and Jim Dowdell. She joined two brothers, Jim and Tom, plus a sister, Shirley. Two younger brothers, Don and Dick, joined the family after Ann was born.
Ann grew up in and attended school in Lethbridge. She married Tom in 1962, they started a family and had two children, Marjorie and Lawrence. Ann earned a diploma from the Grande Prairie Regional College in bookkeeping. She worked for a realty company and the Lethbridge Flying Club before moving to Edmonton in 1979 where she continued to work for a variety of small businesses. In 1994, the family moved to Port Coquitlam, BC where she worked for the Tri-City School System for the next 10 years. In 2008, Ann and Tom retired and relocated to Sechelt, BC where she joined quilting guilds, volunteered in the Sechelt Hospital Thrift Store, and made many friends along the way. In 2017, they moved back to Lethbridge where she was busy with her hobby of quilting & joined a few different quilting guilds.
She was an avid hobbyist with many talents including sewing, gardening, cooking and baking, knitting, reading and many more. She loved to volunteer as giving back to her community and helping others was one of the best ways to spread kindness. She was a natural care giver throughout her lifetime; whether it was her siblings, children, grandchildren, & great-grandchildren, she was always there to help in every way. She loved music and would sing along regardless of who was listening. She had an infectious laugh, great sense of humour, had quick wit and gave the warmest hugs.
She is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Tom; her youngest brother, Dick (Mary-Ina); daughter Marjorie (Phil); son Lawrence (Sheila); granddaughters, Casandra (Ryan), and Leslie (Craig); grandson Ian (Ella); granddaughter Taylor; and great-grandchildren, Anu Grace, Henry, Arthur; as well as many members of her extended family, nieces and nephews.
Ann will be greatly missed by all whose lives she touched. Her legacy lives on in the warmth she left in our hearts, and the grace she brought into the world will continue to ripple onward. Ann believed deeply that “it doesn’t hurt to be kind,” and the most meaningful way to honour her memory is to carry that kindness forward.
At Ann’s request, no funeral will be held.
