MARY JEAN MITCHELL 1938 ~ 2026 Mrs. Mary Jean Mitchell (Anderson) of Lethbridge, beloved wife of the late Mr. Byron James Mitchell, passed away at Good Samaritans Park Meadows on Tuesday, October 20, 2026.
Mary was born in Red Deer, Alberta. She subsequently lived with her parents and siblings in Calgary and Banff. After graduation, she had several careers before becoming a warehouse manager, where she thrived and enjoyed teaching the younger members of her team the joys of a strong work ethic.
Helping others was important to Mary. While living in British Columbia, she volunteered with the United Way and several church organizations. After moving to Lethbridge, she continued this tradition, volunteering at First Baptist Church and becoming a member of the Red Hat Society. She loved socializing and supported her friends and family with warmth, kindness, and a gentle spirit.
Mary and Byron loved to travel to many places in Canada and the US in their motorhome. One memorable trip saw them packing up for months as they travelled slowly across Canada to Newfoundland, while taking the opportunity to visit family and friends and even attending their nephew’s wedding.
Mary is survived by her loving daughters Jodie Weststrate, Mandy Mitchell, and Tammy Chernoff and her cherished grandchildren Jessie, Rawnie, Kaitlin, Dakota, Angel, Jonathan, Wade, and Justin. She is also survived by her sister Frances McHardy, her brother Pat (Irene) Anderson, and several nieces and nephews.
Mary was predeceased by her parents, James Paten and Margaret Jean Anderson, and her sons Brent, Christopher, Robert, and Leslie.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00AM on Monday, October 26, 2026, at FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH – 1614 5 Ave S. Lethbridge, Alberta.
