Helen Marjorie Kurtz (Nicholson) passed away on Monday, January 16, 2017 with her family by her side, at the age of 61 years, beloved wife of Barry Kurtz of Medicine Hat. She also leaves to cherish her memory her children, Kyle (Lauren Killian) and their children, Aria, Hayden and Dexter; Braden (Joyce Peacock); Christina (Kenneth) Ryan and their children, Chase, Easton and Harper; and Mitchell; her sister, Marion McRoberts; two sisters-in-law, Lyndell (Terry) Brekko and Michele (Barry) Bitz as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Michael and Marjorie Nicholson and her brother, Michael.
Helen was born in Medicine Hat to Michael and Marjorie Nicholson on February 26, 1955. She grew up on a farm near Manyberries. She went to school in Manyberries until her final year, graduating from Medicine Hat High School. Helen started out working as a telephone operator for AGT. On May 29, 1981, she and Barry were married and Helen decided to be a stay at home mom. Life revolved around spending time with her family and close friends.
The funeral service will be held in Holy Family Parish (1451 Strachan Road SE) on Friday, January 20, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Murray Miller officiating. When we heard of Helen’s passing, our hearts were heavy knowing we had lost a beautiful lady and wonderful friend. Although we didn’t see each other often in the last few years, when we did our time was filled with constant chatter and many laughs, just like when we were in school. My prayers are with all of you. May all your pain be eased with the many wonderful memories of Helen. Bless all of you.
It is with great sadness I read of Helen’s passing. She was a wonderful person, great neighbor and cherished friend. I wish I could attend the service tomorrow but I am unable. My love to all of the family. Love Deb

Barry, I am so very sorry for the loss of your beautiful wife, Helen. I hope that the wonderful memories can surround you and your family and help to ease the pain of losing Helen. Thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this very sad time. I didn’t know Helen very well but the love and respect the two of you had for each other was so very obvious. She has left a wonderful and amazing legacy and example for your children and grandchildren. Barry, I hope that you know that she is always with you and take comfort is the loving relationship that the two of you had. I was so very sad to hear of Helen’s passing. I knew her very well and we were great friends working at AGT back in the day. She was spunky, adorable and always smiling. We were the two redheads in the office. My most sincere condolences to Barry and family.
