September 20, 1919 ~ August 10, 2018
Hildur (Hilda) Marie Babe (nee Sederberg), beloved wife of the late William ‘Kenneth’ Babe, passed away peacefully in Medicine Hat on Friday, August 10, 2018, at the age of 98 years. Hildur was born on September 20, 1919, on the family farm north of Seven Persons to Scandinavian immigrant parents, Carl and Ragna Sederberg. She grew up on the homestead, the middle child of seven born to the Sederbergs. After completing her schooling, Hildur went to Medicine Hat to work for several families and later at the Medicine Hat Greenhouses. In 1948, she married Ken Babe and moved to the Babe family farm, north of Whitla. This is where they raised their famiy of three children, Doris, James and Gary. In 1979, Hildur and Ken purchased a home in Medicine Hat, although they did not retire until many years later. In 2004, Ken passed away and Hildur moved into the Wellington Residence where she resided until almost two years ago when she moved to Sunnyside Care Centre. Mom was friendly and loved to laugh. She was honest, hard working and industrious. She was active, knew how to have fun and loved to visit. Her family was very important as was her faith in God. Hildur will be lovingly remembered by her three children, Doris (Robert) Wutzke, James (Joan) Babe and Gary (Edythe) Babe; thirteen grandchildren and their spouses as well as thirteen great-grandchildren. She is survived by her brother, Vic (Dorothy) Sederberg; sister, Doris Smith; brother-in-law, George Voeller as well as many nieces and nephews. Along with her husband, Ken, Hildur was predeceased by her parents, Carl and Ragna; siblings, Ruth (Gunster) Bruins, Nancy (Andy) Odegard, Lloyd (Nel) Sederberg and Lorraine Voeller; brothers-in-law, Art Moore and Doug Smith and a nephew, Gordon Bruins. She was also predeceased by members of Ken’s family: parents, Tom and Lily Babe; sister, Doris (Fred) Yungeberg and nephews, Richard (Pat) Stewart and David Stewart. Hildur’s family would like to thank the staff at both the Wellington and Sunnyside for the excellent care she received.
