1934 ~ 2022

Elizabeth Ann (Betty) Sawyer passed from this life on June 29, 2022, at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital. She was predeceased by her mother, Blanche Alberta Sawyer and her father, William Charles Sawyer, as well as her twin sister and best friend, Charlotte Lee Fortier. She is survived by her nephews, Thomas William Sawyer and Jay Taylor Fortier. Betty was born minutes after her twin sister on March 14, 1934, in Sherbrooke, Quebec. She was (deservingly so) inordinately proud of achieving her 88 years, as well as obtaining a teaching diploma and subsequently teaching for many years, most notably at the Montreal School for the Blind. This despite having multiple disabilities from birth. In later years, she enjoyed her own home, her feline and canine companions and her small circle of friends and relatives who regularly kept in touch. These last five years saw Betty as a resident at the Meadowlands Retirement Comm- unity in Medicine Hat, where she appreciated the care and friendship of many staff, as well as that of her tablemates, Joy and Doris. The family wish to thank the medical staff of 4 West, MHRH for their care and compassion towards Betty during her final days.
