Russ was predeceased by his parents, Gordon and Clara (nee Duffield); brother, Don and sister, Midge. He was born in Medicine Hat on September 8, 1931, and spent his very early years in Medicine Hat and Redcliff before moving with his family to Turner Valley, AB. He married the love of his life, Patricia Bignell in 1955, and spent all his working life in the oil industry with time spent in Devon, Red Deer, Drayton Valley, Sundre, Bowden and Edson, before moving to Iran for two years in 1969 with their five children.
